A+ Smart Health Insurance Agency was started in early 2001 by Barbara Coates. It is a team of licensed health insurance agents who specialize in individual and group health insurance. We bring a razor sharp focus to understanding our clients needs and educate each client on what is available in the industry, so the best option to meet their needs is clear to them. We are available by telephone after hours and maintain that great service is just as important as the sale.

Barbara Coates
Agency Manager and President

Barbara Coates comes from a Pre-Law background and has been working in the health insurance field since 2001.

She has been doing nothing but Health Insurance WITH PASSION ever since.

Barbara often travels to the Summit County office and to job sites for on-site enrollment, coming to the client’s area to offer a personal touch.

Janelly Cruz
Individual Health Insurance Agent and Location Management

Janelly is our seasoned location manager trained to handle complex cases of individual health insurance.

She started as an administrator at A+ Smart Health Insurance in 2013 and shortly after got licensed to become broker. She is passionate about helping each individual meat their needs with health insurance.

Janelly is bilingual in Spanish and English.

Carol Gates
Office Adminstrator

Carol’s primary background is nursing, with degree in Business Administration. She worked in critical care for 31 years. In 2005 she switched to working with a private, non-profit child placement agency as Office Manager, transitioning to Asst. Director, handling all office related issues in addition to working closely with the foster parents, State Dept. of Human Services, County Departments of Human/Social Services & the Dept. of Medicaid. Medical background and working with State & County departments are a plus for working in the insurance field.
